The Louisiana Bond Commission is scheduled to take up a request on Thursday (Aug. 18) to raise the line of credit for Louisiana Citizens, the state's insurer of last resort, as it is flooded with policies left behind by failed or departing insurers.
One day after a severe storm rolled through Lake Charles leaving thousands in the dark, people are still cleaning up the path of destruction left in its wake.
The hot and dry weather pattern is going nowhere through the rest of the week, that means the heat will remain an issue each day. Heat indices will climb to at least the 100-degree mark
Our week got off to a hot start as temperatures climbed back into the lower and middle 90′s for most locations and we can can expect the heat to continue for our Tuesday afternoon as well. High pressure will continue to build overhead and combine that with some Saharan Dust we will experience some hazy skies, which could impact some of the sensitive groups with poor air quality.
Our weekend was a nice one with plenty of sunshine, but it was a hot one as temperatures climbed back into the lower 90′s and once you factored in the humidity it felt more like the triple digits at times. Unfortunately, the pattern doesn’t look to change as we move into the new work week as heat continues to build and that will lead to some of the warmest temperatures we’ve seen this year. You’ll need to stay hydrated with plenty of water as heat exhaustion and heat stroke will be a big factor for those working outdoors.
Our weekend has gotten off to a quiet start as showers and storms have remained off to the east, but our heat continues to build as temperatures have climbed this afternoon. Highs today have managed to reach the lower to middle 90′s and couple that with the humidity the heat index has reached the triple digits and that looks to continue as we head into Sunday. Our main focus will continue to be on the heat and feels like temperatures as you’ll want to stay hydrated over the next several days.
Hopefully we enjoyed the rain we got last week because the trends continue to look drier and drier for Southwest Louisiana over the days ahead when it comes to rain chances. Initially the thought was a weak front would interact with the area by Saturday but that front won’t make it thanks to a relentless upper level ridge of high pressure. The closest storms get will be north and southeast Louisiana, bypassing our area with the only best chance of rain we would see. By next week, the upper-level ridge will rebuild and take away any hope of rain by early next week.
Our cold front has pushed through during the overnight hours and thankfully we didn’t see to much in the way of showers and storms as it moved through. Winds are now turning back out of the north and lowering our dew points, which will give us a comfortable feel for the afternoon, although it will be windy at times. Drier weather will be sticking around for much of the upcoming week as high pressure continues to build ahead.
A cold front will move through overnight into early Monday and this will bring drier air into Southwest Louisiana and that means cooler morning temperatures Monday and especially Tuesday.
We’ve started off the weekend with a mixture of sun and clouds, but despite the clouds our temperatures have warmed nicely with most areas back into the lower 80′s. As we work our way towards Easter Sunday our cloud coverage will continue to stick around as we await the arrival of our next cold front, which is set to move in late Sunday evening and into Monday morning.
Clouds and moisture continue to increase this morning as our next system begins to push northward and that could bring us a few showers and storms through the afternoon. Overall the weekend looks to remain decent other than a few showers possible for Saturday morning and the gusty winds we could see during the afternoon, but temperatures will be on the warmer side as a mixture of sun and clouds will be the name of the game.
Our cold front has finally pushed through and has brought some cooler and drier air in for our Thursday, which will lead to plenty of sunshine through the afternoon. The nice weather will be short lived however as winds will turn more easterly this afternoon and eventually more southerly as out next disturbance will lift from the south and bring the chance of a few showers heading into Friday.
We’ll be continuing to watch storms as they move through Southwest Louisiana during the evening hours. There is a slight risk that a couple of storms could produce some damaging wind gusts or even large hail which will be the primary threats of any severe weather we see here locally. The tornado threat remains higher in areas to our north. Storms should be through the entire area by midnight, leaving us with much quieter weather overnight. Temperatures will drop into the 50s by sunrise.
Our weather pattern has begun to change as humidity is slowly returning with dew points climbing back into the lower 60′s and that has added a little mugginess into the air. Temperatures this morning are running some 10-15 degrees warmer than what we are seeing 24 hours ago and this will be a common theme heading over the course of the next few days.
We’re off to another cool start with many of us under clear skies as temperatures continue to fall into the lower to middle 50′s for many locations. Sunshine mixed with clouds will become the weather story over the next several days as well as increasing humidity as winds continue to turn back out of the south as our area of high pressure slides east and we await the arrival of the next cold front.
Our week is starting off perfect as we have cooler and drier air remaining in place as high pressure continues to build overhead, but changes are on the way as we move throughout the week. Moisture as well as the opportunity for a few showers and storms will return to the forecast as the high slides to the east and then we can focus our attention on yet another cold front arriving.
What a beautiful weekend with mostly sunny skies and low temperatures! It will remain comfortable through Monday, though temperatures will gradually warm over the next few days.
What a start to the weekend we are seeing with plenty of sunshine and much cooler weather thanks to the cold front we saw pushing through last night. The Fall weather will continue through the second half of the weekend and even as we move into next week as temperatures stay steady in the lower to middle 70′s with overnights back into lower 50′s.
We have made it to the end of the week and for our Friday we can expect a fairly similar day in comparison to the last several as we await the much anticipated cold front, which will arrive as we head through the later evening hours. Thankfully rain won’t be a big issue for us through the afternoon or really the evening as showers and storms will be very isolated with the best chance of rain coming as the front moves through.
Not much change with the forecast for our Thursday as temperatures remain warm with plenty of moisture in place setting us up for a muggy afternoon, but unlike our Wednesday a few more showers will be in play. The chances of rain remain in the forecast through Friday as well with a cold front approaching from the west but this will help to set us up with Fall weather heading into the weekend.
Sunshine with humidity has been the common theme for the last several afternoons and for our Wednesday the pattern doesn’t change, the one key difference will be the lower rain chances throughout the day as showers look to stay to our west. All eyes remain on the cold front heading into Friday as it brings a few showers and storms before a bigger cool down heading into the weekend.
After the morning showers and storms for our Monday morning the sunshine returned and helped many warm into the middle to upper 80′s throughout the afternoon. Expect a similar start to our Tuesday as we are tracking a few showers along the coastline lifting to the north with a boundary, which will transition to a partly cloudy afternoon with a warm and muggy afternoon.
The first of two cold fronts arrives this morning bringing scattered showers and storms throughout the morning hours before sunshine makes a return for the second half of our day. While we won’t get a great deal of relief from the warm afternoons with this front a stronger front looks likely heading late Friday and into Saturday bringing cooler and drier weather into the area.
