DeRidder schools dismiss early due to water main break

DeRidder, LA (KPLC) - All schools in the City of DeRidder were dismissed at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4 due to a water main break in the city.

DeRidder officials said water service throughout the city was been impacted after a contractor hit a water main on Emerson Street.

Schools are expected to reopen Wednesday, pending restored water service.

The City of DeRidder announced around noon that repairs have been made to the water main and pressure should be building back up in the system.

Recently, there have been several water main breaks by contractors laying fiber cables in the city. There is no word yet on if the same contractors are responsible for the current main break.

A number of DeRidder residents are now also under a boil advisory. The affected areas are as follows:

  • Sunnyside Drive
  • Davella Drive
  • Haynes Drive
  • S. Texas Street
  • Cathy Drive
  • Graybow Road
  • Kilman Pines
  • West 3rd through West 10th Streets
  • East 3rd through East 9th Streets
  • Allen Street
  • Whitney Drive
  • S. Division Street
  • Chase Street
  • Lindsey Street
  • Royal Oak Lane
  • Lewing Lane
  • Woodbrook Street
  • Shadybrook Street
  • Stacey Lane
  • S. Royal Street
  • Crumpler Road
  • Bon Ami Street
  • S. Stewart Street
  • Bolivar Bishop Drive
  • S. Hall Street
  • Emerson Street
  • S. Helen Street
  • Prickett Street
  • Robinson Street.
